Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of each treatment modality?

Massage
Massage therapy helps to release tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. It can aid in muscle recovery, reduce soreness, and improve flexibility, making it ideal for horses in training, recovering from injury, or experiencing stiffness.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture stimulates specific points to promote the body’s natural healing processes. It can relieve pain, support immune function, and address various health issues by rebalancing energy flow. Acupuncture is especially beneficial for addressing chronic pain, digestive issues, and nervous system imbalances.

Red Light Therapy
This therapy uses low-level light wavelengths to stimulate cellular repair and reduce inflammation. It is particularly effective for healing injuries, reducing pain, and supporting the overall health of tissues. Red light therapy is non-invasive and can accelerate recovery times.

Kinesiology Tape
Applied to support muscles and joints, kinesiology tape can aid in reducing pain and preventing injury. It is useful for horses with joint instability, muscle strain, or areas needing extra support during rehabilitation. The tape encourages better movement patterns without restricting range of motion.

Australian Bush Flower Essence
This natural therapy supports emotional and physical balance using extracts from Australian plants. It can help horses with stress, anxiety, or behavioral issues, working on a gentle, vibrational level to promote relaxation and emotional well-being.

How do I know which treatment my horse needs?

During our initial assessment, I carefully evaluate your horse’s physical and emotional state, observing its movement, posture, and areas of sensitivity. Based on this, I’ll recommend the best treatment approach—or sometimes a combination of modalities—to address your horse’s unique needs.

If your horse shows signs of muscle tension or soreness, we may start with massage. For chronic pain, digestive concerns, or stress, acupuncture could be ideal. Injuries or inflammation often respond well to red light therapy, while kinesiology tape offers joint support and stability in specific areas. Australian Bush Flower Essence may also be recommended to address emotional concerns or stress-related behaviors.

By tailoring treatments specifically for your horse, we can work towards the most effective and balanced outcome.

How many treatments?

While one treatment may be sufficient for some cases, it often takes 2 to 3 sessions over a period of 10 to 15 days to see significant results, depending on the reason for the massage. This interval allows the body to adapt to the treatment and adjust to the new sensations being awakened. After this adjustment period, we can better assess your horse's condition and the progress made.

For competitive horses, we offer maintenance treatments that act like a “tune-up,” helping to keep them performing at their best with minimal disruption to their training schedule. However, if deeper issues arise, we may need to conduct further investigations, which could involve more time off. I’m always here to discuss the best options for your horse’s care.

Can treatments be used as a preventative measure?

Absolutely! Regular treatments can help maintain your horse’s overall health, flexibility, and comfort, even if there are no current issues. Preventative care supports muscle tone, joint health, and balanced energy, which helps to reduce the risk of injury, stiffness, or stress over time. Many clients find that routine sessions improve their horse’s performance, recovery after exercise, and general well-being, making it an excellent addition to any equine care routine.

When can you not treat a horse/dog?

In some case a horse or dog can not be treated as this will either cause further complications or be painful to the client below are the common reasons:

WE WILL NOT MASSAGE IF-

-there is swelling/ a break/open wound (we can work around some wounds but that will need to be discussed)

- if your horse is pregnant, happy to do the mares after foaling I mean what mother would not want a massage!

- if you want a pre-competition massage and I have not treated your horse / dog before

- your horse has never been handled (we are good but not that good)

What’s the role of Australian Bush Flower Essence in your treatments?

Australian Bush Flower Essences work on a gentle, vibrational level to support emotional and physical harmony. These natural essences can help with issues such as anxiety, stress, and behavioral challenges, bringing a sense of calm and focus. I may recommend them in cases where your horse shows signs of emotional imbalance or as a way to support relaxation and well-being alongside physical treatments. The essences complement other therapies beautifully and can be a valuable part of a holistic approach to your horse’s health.
